Hawaii - 10 great things to do

GREAT THINGS TO SEE OR DO IN HAWAƏ

Go Surfing

Hawaii is the home of surfing. The islands are blessed with great waves all year round and whether you have been surfing before or are still dreaming of your first wave, Hawai’i is the best place to get on a board.  At famous Waikiki Beach, several experienced surf schools offer lessons and guarantee you to catch a wave in your first lesson.

Take a Hula Lesson

Hula is one of the best, most fun ways to learn about our unique island home and its rich heritage. Join a class, organised by GV Hawaii, and in no time you will be dancing like a pro.

Go Kayaking

Enjoy a day of kayaking in beautiful Kailua Bay. Kailua (and Lanikai) Beach is rated one of the best beaches in America, and it's an excellent destination for fun recreational activities like kayaking, windsurfing and kitesurfing. The calm, clear, sparkling waters, colorful marine life, and stunning views of Kailua Bay and the Koolau mountains make visiting here a very memorable experience.

Tantalus Drive

Take your new best friend on one of the most peaceful drives on Oahu. It is just minutes from the bustle of Honolulu. Tantalus Drive winds its way into the hills of the Honolulu Forest Reserve at the foothills of the Koolau Mountain range which hems Honolulu into the coast. Rising to a summit of 2000 feet, Tantalus Drive offers spectacular views of Downtown Honolulu, Waikiki Beach and Pearl Harbor.  It is very romantic view at night.

A Sunday on the North Shore

Rent a car and drive up north through the pineapple fields, historic Haleiwa, and then on to the world famous big wave surfing beaches. The perfect place to relax and enjoy the pure sun! On your way back, don't forget to get some famous shave ice at Matsumoto's in Haleiwa.  Delicious!

First Friday Gallery Walk

Individuals, businesses and nonprofits located in the Chinatown/downtown neighborhood who present art in their establishments, developed the Downtown Gallery Walk Map and First Friday event. This community-based effort includes traditional galleries and museums, however, some participants bring elements of interest and surprise to the mix including cafes, building lobbies, antiques stores and a tattoo parlor. The range of artists and art presented at the venues is also diverse and insightful and includes contemporary western art, multi-ethnic and Hawaiian art, children’s art, retrospective exhibitions, canoes, tattoos and bonsai.  Each participant agrees to stay open late (5pm to 9pm) and provide “value- added” activities that entertain, educate and celebrate art and art making. Exhibition opening receptions, demonstrations and lectures, games and special sales events characterize the activities each month.

Go Hiking

Manoa Falls is a relaxing hike close to Honolulu. Located in pristine Manoa Valley, Manoa falls provides a wonderful experience to those new to the islands, as well as those just wanting to get away from the city and spend some time in the lush rainforest.

Whale Watching (seasonal)

Every winter season, from approximately December to March, humpback whales come to Hawaii to spawn and rear their young. During this time these beautiful and majestic mammals enjoy themselves by putting on amazing aerial displays of acrobatics. It is up to you if you want to take a boat trip or simply watch for them from the shore. Good places for whale watching are Kaena Point, Diamond Head and Makapu`u. Don`t forget to bring your binoculars!

Neighbor Island Trip

The fabulous natural beauty of the neighbor islands of Maui, Kauai, Molokai and the Big Island is just a short plane ride away.  Each island is unique and definitely worth a visit!
